Victor Osimhen receives seal of approval from Man Utd GOAT

Wayne Rooney has urged Manchester United to make a summer move for Nigeria striker Victor Osimhen, as the former England captain named three key signings he believes could help restore the Red Devils to their former glory.

United are enduring a dismal campaign. They finished eighth last season, their worst Premier League showing yet, and are currently languishing in 16th place despite reaching the Europa League final.

“My three signings: I’d probably sign David de Gea back, I think Manchester United have missed him and I think he could still do a very good job,” Rooney told Amazon Prime Video Sport.

“Second one I’d probably sign [Victor] Osimhen as a No.9. I think he’s a really good striker and possibly available.

“And the third one, it would be difficult but I’d probably try and sign [Marc] Guehi from Crystal Palace as a centre-back. I think he’d have a real good impact on the club.”

Why Rooney’s Victor Osimhen wish may not happen for Man Utd

The reality at Old Trafford may complicate that dream. Firstly, Osimhen’s salary, reported at €12 million net and his €75m buyout clause are major stumbling blocks.

Manchester United, eyeing a rebuild, are said to prefer cheaper alternatives like Liam Delap, who scored 12 goals for relegated Ipswich Town.

Then there’s the matter of continental football. United can only qualify for next season’s UEFA Champions League by beating Spurs in the Europa League final. Through the league, they’re likely to finish between 15th and 17th, a historic low.

Lastly, Osimhen is on the radar of clubs like Chelsea, PSG, Juventus, and several Saudi sides. Unless United move quickly, Rooney’s wish may remain just that.
