Victor Osimhen transfer: Real reason Tottenham want Super Eagles & Galatasaray star

Tottenham Hotspur have stepped up their search for a new striker by making an opening move for Nigeria international Victor Osimhen, Afrik-Foot reports.

New reports say the North London club have approached Galatasaray with an offer worth between £50 million and £55 million, but the Turkish champions are refusing to sell unless they receive a fee closer to £65 million.

According to CaughtOffside, Spurs have been given the go-ahead to begin formal talks for the Super Eagles forward, while personal terms are not expected to be a major problem.

Osimhen is reportedly interested in hearing Tottenham’s plans under head coach Roberto De Zerbi, who is rebuilding the squad after a difficult campaign. The 27-year-old striker is also attracting strong interest from Manchester United, Chelsea (who may have dropped out of the race) and Atlético Madrid, setting up what could become a big transfer battle this summer.

Tottenham’s rebuild continues after dramatic survival

Tottenham’s interest in Osimhen comes after one of the toughest seasons in the club’s recent history. Spurs finished 17th in the Premier League with 41 points, only two points above the relegation zone after changing managers three times during the 2025-26 campaign.

Thomas Frank lost his job in February, while Igor Tudor’s spell lasted only 44 days after the team collected just one point from five league matches. Roberto De Zerbi then arrived in April and guided Spurs to safety by earning 11 points from their final six games, including a crucial 1-0 victory over Everton on the last day of the season thanks to João Palhinha’s 43rd-minute goal.

The club have responded with a huge rebuilding project, spending more than £230 million on new signings. Midfielders Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes have arrived alongside defender Jan Paul van Hecke, while experienced players Andrew Robertson, Marcos Senesi and Martin Dúbravka joined on free transfers. Tottenham have also cleared space in the squad by selling several players and allowing others to leave.

Despite the heavy spending, De Zerbi believes his squad overhaul is still incomplete, with a top-class striker now the priority. Osimhen, who has been described as the “best striker in the world” by Nigeria coach Eric Chelle, is viewed as the ideal player to lead Tottenham’s new attack as they hope to return to competing near the top of the Premier League next season.
