Victor Osimhen delivered when it mattered most, scoring a thumping header to open the floodgates in Galatasaray’s 3-0 win over Kayserispor at Rams Park on Sunday.

The result sealed the club’s 25th Turkish Super Lig title, with the Nigerian striker firmly at the heart of the triumph.

It was a landmark moment in more ways than one, the goal marked Osimhen’s 150th in club football since his professional debut as a teenager with Wolfsburg in 2017.

The 2023 CAF Men’s Player of the Year has now scored 25 goals in 27 league appearances.

With two matches remaining in the 36-game campaign, he leads the scoring charts with four goals and the hearts of the Galatasaray faithful.

The numbers behind the noise for Osimhen

Against Kayserispor, Osimhen completed 3 of 5 take-ons, played 2 key passes, and won 5 of his 9 duels on the ground.

The 26-year-old also triumphed in 3 of 5 aerial battles, finishing with 2 shots on target and 2 off.

Though not his sharpest outing in terms of passing (12/21 completed), his presence was constant and commanding.

Osimhen, who has racked up 36 goals and 7 assists in 38 games across all competitions this season, has been the symbol of Galatasaray’s domestic double. And the club want to keep him badly.

According to Turkish outlet Milliyet, Galatasaray are planning to activate his €75m release clause at Napoli. But that’s not the hook. The Istanbul giants are reportedly offering Osimhen a 40% cut from any future transfer profit, hoping to tempt him into staying one more year.

The banners held by the fans today in the stands said it all.

“Stay with us, Osi, not because you have to, but because you want to.”
