As Orlando Pirates embarked on their pre-season tour to Spain, a significant contingent of nine players were notably absent from the travelling squad.

Afrik-Foot delves into the individual circumstances surrounding each player's omission, offering insights into their immediate futures with the Buccaneers.

A LOOK AT NINE PIRATES PLAYERS WHO DIDN’T TRAVEL

  • Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo: The experienced midfielder appears to be on the cusp of an exit, with Chippa Unitedreportedly in advanced discussions to secure his services. While no official confirmation has been made by the club, it's widely understood that Ndlondlo's contract will not be renewed, marking his departure from Ezimnyama Ngenkani.
  • Selaelo Rasebotja (Injured): Unfortunately for Rasebotja, a lingering injury sustained last season prevented his inclusion in the pre-season camp. Reports indicate he suffered an ACL tear, which prematurely ended his previous campaign and continues to sideline him from action.

  • Zakhele Lepasa: Despite showcasing his dedication through rigorous individual training sessions on social media, striker Zakhele Lepasa was also left behind. Towards the conclusion of the last season, Lepasa was heavily linked with a potential move away, having struggled significantly for game time, failing to feature in even a single match across the five competitions the team participated in.
  • Monnapule Saleng: Saleng's situation with the Sea Robbers has been a persistent talking point throughout the past season, with the player featuring in only a minor portion of the campaign. According to SABC Sport, Saleng is now set to join newly-promoted Betway Premiership side Orbit College, a club that played a pivotal role in launching his career before his move to Free State Stars.
  • Gilberto: The Angolan attacker, Gilberto, spent the latter half of last season on loan at Petro de Luanda, having found playing opportunities limited under coach Jose Riveiro. He has since returned to Orlando Pirates, but his future remains shrouded in uncertainty amid ongoing speculation of another potential departure.
  • Goodman Mosele: Mosele also experienced a curtailed impact last season due to restricted playing time, particularly with Makhehlene Makhaula firmly establishing himself in the crucial number six defensive midfield role. It appears Mosele is not prominently featured in the coaching staff's plans, suggesting a likely exit from the club.
  • Azola Tshobeni: Despite the club's efforts to integrate many of their homegrown youngsters, Azola Tshobeni has struggled to secure significant minutes since returning from his loan spell, highlighting a potential challenge in breaking into the first team.

  • Siphelo Baloni: Baloni spent the entirety of the last season on loan at Chippa United after experiencing difficulties in the 2023/24 campaign. While he has rejoined the Sea Robbers during the current off-season, he is widely considered one of the players who could be heading for a permanent separation from the club.
  • Katlego Otladisa: Otladisa was another player who spent the entire last season out on loan, plying his trade with Sekhukhune United. Recent reports indicate that his time at Orlando Pirates may be coming to an end, with a potential departure on the cards before the start of the new season.
