Chiefs miss another opportunity to apply pressure on Pirates after draw with TS Galaxy

Kaizer Chiefs failed to win their fourth game in a row as poor finishing continued to hamper them following a goalless draw away to TS Galaxy on Sunday.

With a chance to move to within two points of PSL leaders Orlando Pirates, Chiefs blew away the opportunity once again, as combination of poor finishing and questionable officiating conspired to deny them the three points.

The Glamour Boys thought they had scored after 18 minutes when Flavio da Silva had the ball in the net but he was incorrectly flagged offside and with no VAR for a second check, Amakhosi missed the opportunity.

Chiefs also had a penalty shout that was not given when defender Khulumani Ndamane brought down Dillan Solomons following a stamp on the back of his ankle but the defender was not punished and Galaxy let off the hook.

Host of missed chances from Kaizer Chiefs

From there, it was a host of missed chances from Chiefs with Khanyisa Mayo missing from a great flying header just before halftime.

After a goalless first half, Chiefs had another great chance in the 63rd minute when Asanele Velebayi brought in a delicious cross that Silva failed to connect well with and four minutes later, captain Inacio Miguel missed from close range after a ball from a corner found him at the back post but he failed to head it on target.

Ten minutes later, Luke Baartman, making his Chiefs debut, missed from close range two minutes after coming on as a 79th minute substitute, while a minute later Glody Lilepo, returning after nearly two months out with an injury, failed to connect well when he had the goalkeeper to beat.

Where do Amakhosi finish 2025?

However, it was Galaxy who almost grabbed all three points at the death as Junior Zindoga unleashed a great shot after getting into space in the box with only the woodwork saving Chiefs the blushes.

There were more incidents in stoppage time when Nhlanhla Mgaga was sent off for a second bookable offence after a stamp on Solomons.

Soon after, Chiefs should have won it with the last kick of the game when Solomons brought it a pin-point cross and Miguel headed home thinking he had found the target but the ball went out.

Chiefs now end the year in fourth place with 24 points from 13 games, four behind leaders Pirates, who have a game in hand.
