Chiefs’ Mmodi responds to critics questioning his role: Only someone with football sense can understand position I’m playing

Kaizer Chiefs winger Pule Mmodi has responded to critics who feel he sometimes gets lost on the pitch, clarifying the role he is playing at the club.

The experienced versatile winger has always been Amakhosi's danger-man on the left, but misses some good chances. This season, he has played 10 games across all competitions without a goal. However, he is industrious, explaining why he is favoured by the Glamour Boys' technical team.

In his recent interview with the media, the 32-year-old has explained how his role was redefined when immediate former coach Nasreddine Nabi took over, with his successors Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef continuing with the same.

The attacker has further told off his critics, insisting they don't know football, and that is why they don't know his duty on the pitch.

I'm familiar with my Chiefs' position – Mmodi

“Since Coach Nabi came here, and Coach Khalil, he said he wants wingers with so much energy to go up and down,” he stated.

“For now, I can say I play as a wing, fullback, or whatever. If we attack, I have to be a wing, and if we defend, I have to help the left back. But I think for me, it’s so many people who don’t understand the role that I play.

“Only football players or someone who has a football sense can clearly understand the position that I’m playing. And obviously, I’m familiar with the position, as long as I always give my best because I’m a hard worker,” Mmodi concluded.

The winger is expected to feature on Wednesday when they play Siwelele in the Premier Soccer League outing at the FNB Stadium. The Glamour Boys have gone five domestic games without a win.
