Kaizer Chiefs have been struggling in the goalkeeping department for the last couple of seasons, with Brandon Petersen, Bruce Bvuma, and recently Fiacre Ntwari failing to deliver as anticipated.
There have been reports that the Rwanda international Ntwari might be leaving in the ongoing transfer window. However, nothing has been officially communicated by the involved parties despite coach Nasreddine Nabi's commitment to having players who will help him deliver in the 2025/26 season.
Former Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Shu-Aib Walters has now challenged the Amakhosi management to consider having veteran custodian Darren Keet in their squad for the forthcoming edition.
The 35-year-old played every Premier Soccer League minute but was unable to save Cape Town City from relegation.
‘Consistency is essential'

“Petersen is still finding his feet, so if I were Chiefs, I would definitely keep him. I'm not sure if Bvuma is a long-term solution. Bontle Molefe hasn’t had any minutes and hasn’t been given an opportunity. Fiacre Ntwari, when you're signing a goalkeeper, you shouldn't sign someone who has only had one good season,” he told SNL24.
“When [Mamelodi] Sundowns signed Ronwen Williams, he had already been playing in the PSL for 10 years, and eight of those years were solid performances at SuperSport United. Consistency is essential.
“Sometimes you need a lot of patience with goalkeepers. I remember when Moeneeb Joseph had a poor first season with [Orlando] Pirates, but Pirates were patient with him. In the case of Chiefs, if they are going to bring in a goalkeeper now, who will they get? A foreign goalkeeper might need at least six months to settle into a new country,” he added.
‘Experienced back-up is exactly what Chiefs need'

“Currently, I don't see anyone of Kaizer Chiefs’ quality in South Africa. Molefe has been unfortunate. Twenty years ago, he would have had opportunities like Itumeleng Khune did,” Walters continued.
“In the past, Chiefs signed a 37-year-old Arthur Bartman when Bay United were relegated, and he performed very well as a back-up goalkeeper.
“So, perhaps someone with that level of experience as a back-up goalkeeper is exactly what Chiefs need,” he concluded.
