Chiefs Transfer News: Nabi urged to sign SA striker – ‘He isn’t a reject!’

Published on by

Kaizer Chiefs recently signed Flavio Silva to bolster their attacking department following the exit of Ranga Chivaviro, who had failed to make a desired impact at the club.

However, Silva has struggled to make an immediate impact; he is yet to score in the six pre-season matches the Glamour Boys have played. The striker looked a little blunt in the final third, posing a question about whether he is the right person to lead the Amakhosi's attacking department.

Just a couple of days ago, Orlando Pirates confirmed the exit of a South Africa international Zakhele Lepasa. The 28-year-old did not play any game for the Buccaneers in the 2024/25 edition owing to an injury.

Former Amakhosi defender Mokete Tsotetsi believes Lepasa can be the main man for the Soweto giants, and coach Nasreddine Nabi should give him a chance.

Lepasa has something to give Chiefs

“Lepasa is one of the quality strikers, and he did well for Pirates, when he was given a chance. He is not a reject from Pirates. He did not get enough game time, and sometimes when you are out, you find that the team gels, and it’s difficult for you to break into the team after being sidelined with injury,” he told Soccer Laduma.

“But I see he has recovered, and because Chiefs have not been able to get [Khanyisa] Mayo for now, I think Lepasa has something to give. If he can be given a chance at Chiefs, I think he can do well and revive his career.

“Also, it depends on what type of striker coach Nabi would want. We will have to wait and see.”

Currently, Lepasa is with the Bafana Bafana team that will play in the 2024 CHAN that will be jointly held by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania from August 2.
