Rulani Mokwena has backed Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi to continue in his role after being impressed by his team’s run in the Nedbank Cup.
Chiefs ended their 10-year wait for a trophy when they beat Orlando Pirates in the final to win the Nedbank Cup in May but just a day later, reports emerged that Amakhosi had decided to sack him despite the cup win.
That led to questions over Nabi’s future while there have also been calls from some Chiefs legends to send the coach home but he seems to have been given a stay of execution.
Mokwena impressed by Nabi’s cup run

Mokwena feels that is the right thing to do as Nabi earned the right to continue after winning the Nedbank Cup by beating the country’s three best teams.
“I am watching a lot of South African games and I have finished the whole competition of the Nedbank Cup and I was really impressed with how Kaizer Chiefs went on to win the Nedbank Cup, beating Stellenbosch, Sundowns and Pirates at a time where there was a lot of noise, doubt and pressure on the coach and his staff and to do that you know it is not easy,” Mokwena told Marawa Sports Worldwide.
“It is a great club, it has the pressure of doing well in the domestic league but I think winning the Nedbank Cup and delivering the first title and the way they did it, beating other big teams to win it, I think coach Nabi has earned credit.
Will Chiefs coach revive their fortunes?

“Sometimes as coaches we need that, we need credit sometimes and I think he has earned his credit to be given an opportunity to continue to resurrect Kaizer Chiefs.”
Nabi is hoping for reinforcements to his squad to be able to challenge next season after a disappointing ninth place finish in the PSL and will lead his team to pre-season in the Netherlands in July.
Mokwena, meanwhile, is without a job after leaving Moroccan giants Wydad AC and has been linked with the vacant Orlando Pirates job.
