Is this the reason why Chiefs haven’t extended contracts of key players?

Several Kaizer Chiefs players will be out of contract when their current deal with the club expire on June 30.

Bruce Bvuma and Brandon Petersen, defenders Dillan Solomons and Sibongiseni Mthethwa, midfielder Nkosingiphile Ngcobo, and attacker Gaston Sirino have a couple of months in their current deal with the Soweto giants.

The aforementioned players can now discuss with the other teams as per FIFA regulations regarding players who have six months or less remaining with their respective clubs.

Why are Chiefs not acting?

According to Amakhosi legend Thabang Rooi, the club is comfortable since they have the right to exercise their one-year extension option. This is the reason for taking time to solve the future of those players.

“I don’t know if things have change at Chiefs or what but during our time Chiefs had option for most of us. Maybe the have options for most of those players. We used to sign two-season and two or one year option,” Rooi said as quoted by Soccer Laduma.

“I think that’s the case and hoping to sign other players and loan some or sell. I think most of the players deserve to be kept until Chiefs sort out the coaching staff,” he added.

Meanwhile, Brando Peterse’s agent Glyn Binkin has revealed the involved parties are already negotiating extension.

“In terms of Brandon (Petersen), we are in discussions with them,” he said as quoted by Soccer Laduma.

“They have an option (clause) anyway on the existing contract. So it’s finishing on 30th June 2026, but they have an option for a year. But we are speaking about a new contract for him anyway,” Binkin concluded.
