‘It’s a gift for chairman’ – Chiefs DDC coach Vela Khumalo

Published on by

The Kaizer Chiefs reserve side has been crowned champions of the DStv Diski Challenge. The title was secured last week, prior to the conclusion of the season.

Reserve team coach Vela Khumalo has dedicated this achievement to the club's chairman, Mr. Kaizer Motaung, and the wider Khosi Nation fanbase.

The team concluded their successful league run with a commanding 5-0 victory over AmaZulu FC at Dobsonville Stadium this Sunday.

The goals for Chiefs came from braces by Manqoba Ozoemena and Naledi Hlongwane, complemented by a strike from Siphesihle Tati.

However, coach Khumalo felt the dominant 5-0 scoreline didn't reflect the team's full potential. He then said the DDC title was a gift the club’s boss and fans.

“Finally, we are the champions, it’s official, not much of a good performance today but five goals, you cannot falter them,” said Khumalo after the match.

“Let’s go play the [Premier League Next Generation Cup] tournament in India.

“Importantly, we wanted 70 points, we are at 70 which is good.

“One takes this one and say, we’re giving it to our chairman, we’re giving it to our supporters, we’re giving it to everyone at the village, I cannot mention them, I did that last Saturday.

“So, we’re happy, we’re in a good space. Congratulations to everybody but this is for you chairman.”
