Kaizer Chiefs Marketing and Commercial Director Jessica Motaung has insisted the club must look to succeed on the continent after sealing CAF Confederation Cup qualification.
Chiefs made it to the Confederation Cup by virtue of winning the Nedbank Cup and will be challenging in Africa’s second tier club competition next season to the delight of their fans and owners.
While they have struggled in the league with coach Nasreddine Nabi insisting his squad is not good enough, Jessica maintains they are not there to make up the numbers, as they are a big team that are expected to perform and challenge for the trophy.
“Very important for Kaizer Chiefs to be back on the continental stage, we saw with winning the Nedbank Cup the importance of Chiefs to South Africa and South African football,” Jessica told the media on Thursday after attending the new CAF Champions League trophy unveiling.
Jessica wants Nabi to win Confederation Cup
“Their role in African football is important so the club is very excited that Chiefs are back on the continent and look forward to flying the flag.
“Expectations are to fight for every trophy that is on the table. That is what the team is all about and now that the winning energy is back, it needs to flow,” she added in what was a message to Nabi to bring the trophy to Naturena.

Chiefs may be South Africa’s biggest and most popular team but they are yet to taste continental success like their PSL rival Orlando Pirates, the 1995 winners, and Mamelodi Sundowns, who won it in 2016, and are in this season’s final.
Amakhosi’s best result is two Champions League runners-up in 2002 and 2020-21 while in the Confederation Cup, they have never gone past the playoff round, their last appearance being in 2018.
