Lorch admits Libyan offer was too good to turn down – ‘It improves my social situation’

Thembinkosi Lorch has admitted his transfer to Libya was one he could not reject because of the financial incentives tabled to him.

Lorch agreed a two-and-a-half-year deal with Libyan outfit Al-Ittihad last week with reports saying he is set to earn $75,000 (R1.2 million) per month, having decided to ditch Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic Club.

Wydad will in turn pocket a reported transfer fee of $1.5 million (R24 million), a win-win situation for both parties, and the former Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns forward says this was a life-changing opportunity that he could not turn down.

Lorch revealed that his deal with Wydad included a clause that would allow him to leave whenever a better-paying offer was tabled from elsewhere and this is what he exercised when the big-spending Libyan side came calling.

“I was clear from the beginning — my goal was to improve my social situation, and when a suitable offer came in, the agreement would be activated,” Lorch said as quoted by Soccer Laduma via Barlaman Sport.

Lorch has been at Wyad for one year, having joined on loan from Sundowns in January 2025, before making the move permanent at the end of the season.

He has played a total of 28 matches for the Moroccan club and scored eight goals, five of them this season, while providing four assists.

“Wydad’s supporters are unforgettable; they were always there for me,” he further stated,

Lorch will play his final match for the club this weekend when they take on Congolese side Maniema Union in the CAF Confederation Cup.
