Nabi slammed for not playing ‘boring’ but effective football

Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi has been challenged to change his tactics after recent poor showings in the Premier Soccer League.

In the most recent two outings, Amakhosi have collected just one point against Royal AM and Polokwane City. Against the former, Amakhosi took an early 2-0 lead before letting the lead slip at the Peter Mokaba Stadium, and the match eventually ended 2-2.

Their most recent outing against Rise and Shine ended 2-0 in favour of the hosts at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium.

Former Glamour Boys midfielder Willard Katsande has now blamed coach Nasreddine Nabi, especially for the draw against Royal AM. He argues it is not always about playing a beautiful game.

‘You can't let a lead slip like that'

“In our era, we had international players. [Some] had just played the World Cup. We were surrounded by internationals. It's not like the players are bad but maybe they are lacking experience, which you need in these kinds of games,” the former Zimbabwe international told SoccerBeat.

“Not every time you're winning 2-0, you want to attack and play good football. Sometimes in our days we used to put a third centre-back. From there, we play what they say it's “boring” football, but you look at the scoreboard. They need to learn quickly.

“It goes to the leadership of the team, where they have to take charge. If you look at the past two games [before this past weekend], that's what they needed, maximum points to get moving. The second round is difficult. You can't let a lead slip like that,” Katsande continued.

“You can see that the hunger is there, but can we play with our heads? It's not like you need to dominate 90 minutes, because that would be unfair in football.”

The Soweto giants have 11 points from the eight games that they have so far played in the ongoing 2024/25 campaign and their next game will be against TS Galaxy.
