‘No time to complain’ – Miguel Inacio warns Kaizer Chiefs against underperformance in DR Congo

Kaizer Chiefs captain Miguel Inacio says they have no other option but to win their CAF Confederation Cup second preliminary round first leg against Congolese side AS Simba.

Chiefs are in Lubumbashi to face Simba at the Stade TP Mazembe on Saturday and need a positive result on enemy territory to take to South Africa in the second leg as they look to make it to the group stages.

Inacio has issued a rallying call to his Chiefs team-mate to rise to the occasion and ensure they get the result that they need even though they will be playing in front of a partisan crowd and on an artificial turf.

“It’s a bit complicated but there’s no time to complain about the weather or the pitch, it’s time to focus on our mission, we’ve come here [to Congo] with a goal, so our focus right now is to win on Saturday,” Miguel told iDiski Times.

“We learned from our mistakes [in Angola], it’s part of the process, we understand what we did wrong in the first round, we can’t make those same mistakes, we’re focused on coming back with a win to be more relaxed for the second leg. And with that we’re going to need hard work, commitment and I think all of us are prepared for that.”

The Angolan defender accepts that Simba will give them a hard time due to their physical approach but he does not want that to be used as an excuse by the Glamour Boys.

“We know Simba are very physical, they play in a small stadium, so many long balls, duels, we are ready for that – we are working on it, and we will do it,” he added.

Chiefs beat Angolan side Kabuscorp in the first preliminary round and are looking to do the same in the second preliminary round and make it to the group stage of a continental competition since 2021.

The match will kick off at 15:00 but Amakhosi fans will not be able to watch as the host team was not able to make broadcast arrangements.
