Orlando Pirates striker puts Kaizer Chiefs on alert as he confirms exit

Striker Tshegofatso Mabasa has shed light on his future, confirming his impending departure from Orlando Pirates as his contract nears its end.

Mabasa spent the latter half of the recently concluded season on loan at Stellenbosch FC, who have since announced they will not be pursuing a permanent deal for the forward. With his contract at parent club Orlando Pirates expiring at the end of June and no new offer presented, Mabasa is set to become a free agent.

In an interview with KickOff, the former Bloemfontein Celtic player confirmed that his time with the Soweto giants is over.

“The club has not offered me a contract. I guess I will be leaving,” Mabasa stated.

The 29-year-old, nicknamed ‘Sniper’, has already garnered significant interest from clubs both locally and abroad, with potential moves to Turkey and Israel being reported. Besides Stellenbosch, Kaizer Chiefs are the other local club credited with an interest in the striker.

Mabasa also took the opportunity to dismiss widespread speculation that he had already signed a pre-contract with another Gauteng-based team, presumably Chiefs.

“That’s not true,” he clarified. “I have not signed with any club at the moment. I can’t comment about the teams that are interested. My agent is handling that.”

He added that a final decision will be made only after careful consideration of all available offers with his representative.

“I will only make a decision after sitting down with him and looking at those offers. At the end, the final decision will come from my side,” he concluded.

During his loan spell with Stellenbosch FC, Mabasa found the net five times. His next destination remains one of the key questions of the upcoming transfer window.
