‘We expect him to deliver’ – Jessica Motaung explains why Nabi has no excuse

Kaizer Chiefs marketing and commercial manager Jessica Motaung believes coach Nasreddine Nabi has no excuse not to deliver after being backed heavily in the transfer market.

Chiefs have so far brought in 11 players with Khanyisa Mayo the latest to arrive, having been signed from Algerian outfit CR Belouizdad on Friday, adding to the excitement at Naturena.

Nabi has also started the season in fine fashion with four wins and a draw for 13 points, same as leaders Sekhukhune Unite, while they are the only team yet to concede in the PSL.

The veteran tactician is hoping to bring success to the club after ending their 10-year wait for a trophy with the Nedbank Cup win last season and Jessica Motaung says he now has to deliver after such an outlay on new players.

“The team is committed to making sure that we have the best players, whatever coach we have,” said Motaung as quoted by iDiski Times.

“We are here to build a team that’s going to last for Kaizer Chiefs. Obviously, the coach is here to do his job. We’re giving him the tools to do the job, and we expect him to deliver,” she added.

The Chiefs boss also lauded the club’s fans for showing their commitment to the team by turning up in large numbers as witnessed by the sold-out stadium when they hosted Mamelodi Sundowns last month.

“Definitely speaks to what the brand is about obviously, winning adds to it and it was great to see the stadium filled at 70,000 capacity,” she further said.

“In fact, we had to stop selling tickets, so we were in a full house on a Wednesday night. But we’ve seen it with the team filling the stadium, playing against Sundowns, playing against [Orlando] Pirates and other teams.

“But certainly, the mood is high, and supporters are really voting with their feet and coming into the stadium and filling the stadium.”

Chiefs have not won the PSL title since 2015 but their good start is giving fans hopes of a return to the winners’ podium even if there is still plenty of work before getting there.

The Glamour Boys will return to action on September 16 when they host Sekhukhune in a top of the table PSL clash that will test their title credentials.
