Why Romain Folz was absent in Sundowns’ last match

Mamelodi Sundowns' assistant coach, Romain Folz, was notably absent from the bench during their CAF Champions League match against Maniema Union on Monday and here’s why.

Masandawana had a poor start to their group stage campaign, drawing 0-0 with the minnows from DR Congo.

Folz, who joined the club at the beginning of the season, is currently in Mauritania to complete his CAF A coaching license.

This certification, in addition to his existing UEFA Pro License, will further enhance his coaching credentials.

As a result of his absence, Folz will also miss Sundowns' upcoming Betway Premiership match against Sekhukhune United this weekend.

FOLZ ATTENDING COACHING COURSE OUT IN MAURITANIA

“Romain (Folz) is out of the country as I am talking to you. He is still part of Sundowns, but he went to attend a coaching course,” the Soccer Laduma source revealed.

“He is out in Mauritania for his CAF A License. Remember he is a French-Moroccan so he qualifies to do the CAF licence.

“He is going to add that to the UEFA Pro License that he has already. He is going to be the only coach I know with those qualifications in the PSL. That's why he wasn't in the CAF Champions League match.

“He won't be there in the next match as well against Sekhukhune United at Loftus (Versfeld Stadium) on Saturday,”
