Ademola Lookman’s inclusion in the 2024/2025 Serie A Team of the Season comes as no surprise.

The Nigerian forward has been at the heart of Atalanta’s resurgence, contributing 15 goals and five assists in just 30 appearances, with two games still left to play.

His campaign has been littered with big-game performances, often delivering when it mattered most.

Ademola Lookman: Five Serie A masterclasses that justified his Team of the Season nod

Here are five matches that defined his season.

1. Lookman vs Fiorentina (Matchday 4)

Amid summer transfer whispers, Lookman missed Atalanta’s opening fixtures. But he marked his return with an emphatic display against Fiorentina.

The Bergamo side had fallen behind early, but Lookman’s clever assist drew them level six minutes later. Deep into first-half stoppage time, the Nigerian made a trademark run from the left, skipped past his marker, and slid home what would prove to be the winner.

2. Five Star show vs Verona (Matchday 9)

Verona came to the Gewiss Stadium and left with bruises, and Lookman’s fingerprints were all over the rout.

The reigning CAF Men’s Player of the Year tormented their backline, grabbing two goals and two assists in a 6-1 demolition.

Whether drifting wide or cutting in centrally, the Nigerian was untouchable, dictating tempo and orchestrating every attacking wave. It was a performance of complete attacking mastery.

3. Silencing Conte’s Napoli (Matchday 11)

At the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, against the title challengers, Lookman delivered arguably his most statement performance of the season.

Tasked with leading the line, he repaid Gasperini’s faith with a devastating brace. The first was a thumping volley off Charles De Ketelaere’s flick; the second saw him breeze past Amir Rrahmani before firing beyond Alex Meret. Napoli had no answers as Atalanta ran out 3-0 winners.

4. Late winner vs AC Milan (Matchday 15)

In a tight contest at home to AC Milan, Lookman once again emerged as the difference-maker.

Twice denied by Mike Maignan late in the game, he stayed sharp and alert, and in the 87th minute, timed his jump perfectly to head home the winner.

The goal sealed a 2-1 victory and earned him his fifth Man of the Match award of the campaign.

5. Business as usual vs Empoli (Matchday 26)

Back in the groove after AFCON qualification duties with the Super Eagles, Lookman was clinical against Empoli. His first goal came just before the break, rounding the keeper from a tight angle after a composed buildup.

Then added a second ten minutes after the restart, smashing a low shot into the far corner.

Playing as a central striker, he looked natural and menacing, sealing a 5-0 rout that kept Atalanta’s Champions League hopes on course.
