Aston Villa transfers: How Femi Azeez could benefit from Europa League champions’ move

Published on by

Europa League winners Aston Villa could accelerate their pursuit of Super Eagles forward Femi Azeez this summer following a major development involving one of their key players, Afrik-Foot reports.

Villa have been monitoring Azeez since the end of last season as Unai Emery looks to strengthen his squad ahead of another UEFA Champions League campaign while also competing for Premier League honours.

The 25-year-old enjoyed a breakthrough season with Millwall in the Championship, scoring 11 goals and providing seven assists. He played a key role in helping the Lions reach the Championship playoff semi-finals, where they were eventually knocked out by Hull City.

His impressive performances earned him a place in the Championship PFA Team of the Season. He also made his Super Eagles debut at the 2026 Unity Cup, announcing himself in style with two goals in Nigeria’s 2-0 victory over Zimbabwe.

Despite his outstanding campaign, Azeez’s future at Millwall remains uncertain, with several clubs interested in signing him this summer. Aston Villa are now emerging as one of the strongest contenders.

Aston Villa agree Morgan Rogers sale to Chelsea

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Aston Villa have agreed a £117 million deal with Chelsea for the transfer of Morgan Rogers.

Rogers had also attracted interest from Arsenal, but Chelsea have moved quickly to secure the England international’s signature.

The transfer fee is set to become a record for an English player, surpassing the £116 million Manchester City paid Nottingham Forest for Elliott Anderson earlier this month.

With Rogers now set to leave Villa Park, Aston Villa will need to replace one of their most influential attacking players ahead of the new season.

The Super Eagles forward has previously spoken about his ambition to play in the Premier League, and his performances have attracted interest from several clubs, including Ipswich Town and Bournemouth.

Ipswich have already seen a bid of around £20 million rejected by Millwall, while Bournemouth are also exploring a move for the Nigerian forward.

Although he is naturally a winger, Azeez is also capable of playing in attacking midfield, giving Emery another option to fill the void left by Rogers, which is another major reason they are expected to step up their pursuit.

The next step for Aston Villa would be to formalize their interest with an official bid to Millwall. If an agreement is reached between both clubs, they can then begin negotiations over personal terms with the Super Eagles forward.

Once those talks prove successful, Azeez could finally fulfill his dream of playing in the Premier League and take the next major step in his career.
