Azeez responds to Aston Villa and Ipswich links as Super Eagles newbie speaks on future

Super Eagles forward Femi Azeez has weighed in on his future at Millwall amid growing interest from Aston Villa and Ipswich Town ahead of the summer transfer window, Afrik-Foot reports.

The 24-year-old joined Millwall in 2024, but it was during the recently concluded campaign that he truly established himself as one of the standout performers in the EFL Championship.

Azeez scored 11 goals and provided eight assists in 35 appearances across all competitions as Millwall narrowly missed out on promotion to the Premier League. The Lions finished third in the Championship but were defeated in the playoff semifinal by Hull City and his impressive performances earned him a place in the EFL Championship Team of the Season.

His displays at club level also caught the attention of Nigeria head coach Eric Chelle, who handed him his senior international debut. Azeez carried his excellent form to the international stage, scoring twice on his debut in a 2-0 victory over Zimbabwe in the Unity Cup before registering an assist in Nigeria’s 3-0 win over Jamaica in the final as the Super Eagles lifted the trophy.

Azeez’s future has become uncertain after Millwall’s failure to secure promotion, with several Premier League clubs reportedly monitoring his situation ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Lions could face a difficult task of keeping the Nigerian forward beyond this summer and have already rejected a £20 million offer from Ipswich Town, while Aston Villa are also interested in making a move. 

Despite the growing speculation, the Nigerian star remains focused on the coming season, with any decision over his future resting in the hands of his club.

“It’s not up to me, you know. Now I’m on holiday, and I want to enjoy it with my kids and prepare for the season with Millwall, so that’s what I’m thinking right now”, Azeez said, via Flashscore.

Ipswich Town and Aston Villa remain keen on Azeez

Super Eagles forward Femi Azeez remains relaxed about his future, although he has previously revealed his ambition of playing in the Premier League. 

“As a footballer, you always want to play at the highest level you can play at”, Afrik-Foot previously reported.

“The Premier League is the pinnacle of football. I’d love to play in the Premier League. So obviously, I’m working hard, and I’m going to do whatever I can to get there.”

Several clubs continue to monitor the Nigerian forward’s situation and a summer move continues to look very likely.

Although Millwall turned down a £20 million bid from Ipswich Town, the newly promoted side could return with an improved offer as they look to strengthen their squad and avoid an immediate return to the Championship.

Aston Villa are also among the clubs that remain interested in the two-cap Super Eagles star ahead of the transfer window and the Europa League champions could be able to afford the deal if Morgan Rogers leaves this summer amid reported interest from several top European clubs.

With several clubs monitoring his situation, Azeez’s future could become clearer in the coming weeks especially if Millwall receives an offer that matches their valuation.
