Benin coach Gernot Rohr named his squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against the Super Eagles.
He has called up 25 players for the games against Nigeria and Libya as their AFCON 2025 qualifiers start next month. The meeting will mark his first visit back to Nigerian soil since being sacked as the country's head coach in December 2021.
Rohr, who coached the Super Eagles for five years between 2016 and 2021, is relishing a meeting with new Nigeria coach Bruno Labbadia, whose appointment he hailed.
The 71-year-old tactician has included the first-choice goalkeeper, Saturnin Allagbe, of Dijon and captain Steve Mounié, who turns out for Augsburg FC. Angers SCO's Cédric Hountondji has also made the squad.
Super Eagles seek revenge, strong AFCON 2025 start against Benin
Benin will play against Nigeria on September 7 at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo and then against Libya three days later.
Rohr and his wards will seek to replicate what they did in June when they beat Nigeria 2-1 at the Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny in 2026 World Cup qualifying.
The Super Eagles will be cautious of the threat of Benin and look to set the record straight next month in Uyo.
