Calvin Bassey: Fenerbahce take key step to snatch Super Eagles star from Fulham

Published on by

Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey could leave Fulham for Fenerbahçe, as the club has taken a key step to sign him this summer, Afrik-Foot reports.

Bassey is coming off another brilliant season with Fulham. The Nigerian has been simply brilliant for the Cottagers since joining them from Ajax for €22.5 million in 2023.

He has been a consistent fixture in the club’s center-back role, and over three years, he has already racked up 101 appearances with four goals and one assist to his name.

Bassey has developed a fine reputation in England due to his impressive balance of brains and brawn in performing his duties on the pitch. He is one of the defenders whom Premier League attackers fear going up against.

His impressive performances for Fulham have often seen fans pushing for him to join a bigger club in England, Germany, or even Spain. In the meantime, however, it is one of the Turkish giants, Fenerbahçe, that appears to be interested in acquiring his services.

Fenerbahce Take Vital Step For Calvin Bassey

Fenerbahçe have been heavily linked with Bassey in recent weeks. The Yellow Canaries are expected to have a busy summer following their inability to win a title last season.

They have failed to win the Süper Lig title for 13 years despite consistently investing in their squad. Their Istanbul rivals Galatasaray have been dominating the league for the past four years.

This summer, Bassey is a top target. According to Transfer Postası, club president Aziz Yıldırım is set to travel to London to open talks with the Super Eagles star.

While it is an ambitious move, the transfer could still happen. Bassey is valued at €28 million on Transfermarkt, which is a fee that they can afford. Also, the former Ajax man has one year left on his contract, meaning that Fulham do not have a long leash.

In addition, Bassey is a low earner at Fulham, making around €29,000 weekly. If Fenerbahçe table a solid offer, the Super Eagles star could be tempted to leave.
