By a landslide, defender Calvin Bassey was voted Fulham’s MVP of the 2024/25 season.
It was a sparkling endorsement for a superb season for the Nigeria international, who shone for the Cottagers not just in their run to the FA Cup semi-finals, but also in league play. The 25-year-old, in only his second season back in English football, has repaired a reputation that was damaged by a disastrous spell in Dutch football with Ajax.
He has also confirmed his standing as one of the Premier League’s leading lights, and rivalled the likes of Virgil van Dijk and William Saliba in a number of defensive metrics over the course of the season.

Do Calvin Bassey’s earnings match his Premier League status?
However, while he was in excellent company on the pitch, he lags some way behind on the emolument front. Remarkably for a player with a cast-iron claim for being his club’s best, in the salary pecking order, Bassey is closer to the bottom of the totem pole.

Per Capology, the former Rangers man earns a gross weekly salary of £45,000, a figure that makes him only Fulham’s 14th-highest paid player. For context, former Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno is the club’s highest earner with weekly earnings of £130,000, while Raul Jimenez, Joachim Anderson and Alex Iwobi follow closely behind.
Bassey earns less than the likes of Kenny Tete and Harrison Reed, and on par with Tottenham reject Ryan Sessegnon.
