Former Rangers player Derek Ferguson has issued a warning to Cyriel Dessers following the Nigerian striker’s heated exchange with fans during Rangers' UCL third-round qualifier against Dynamo Kyiv.
The incident occurred when Dessers failed to control a pass, prompting jeers from the frustrated home support.
The Super Eagles forward clearly displeased, responded by urging the supporters to continue backing the team rather than criticize.
Dessers’ outburst became a focal point in the aftermath of Rangers’ exit from the Champions League, as they fell short in their bid to progress to the group stages.
Cyriel Dessers urged to develop thicker skin
Speaking on the Open Goal Podcast via Rangers Review, Ferguson advised the 29-year-old forward to remain composed, emphasizing that fans will inevitably express their frustration when things aren’t going well for the club.
I'll tell you what, that's when the fans kicked in,” Ferguson stated.
“That's when the fans came in and gave them a wee bit back. By the way, just another wee thing. We praised him last week but, Dessers, be careful mate.
“We get that you're giving your all and a bit jaded and all that, but when the fans are giving it to you, that's part of parcel of being at Rangers, Celtic, Aberdeen and Hearts. That's part of the game.
“You've got to accept that. When he started giving it that, I was really surprised. I tell you, you're in for a rough ride.”
Cyriel Dessers has faced his fair share of criticism at Ibrox, with some Rangers fans less than impressed by his performances in front of goal. In spite of this, he has scored twice in four appearances this season and boasts a decent overall tally of 24 goals in 58 appearances for the club.
