Cyriel Dessers may have reached double digits for the season, but the Rangers striker insists he’s just getting started.
The Nigeria striker's clinical finish, set up by James Tavernier in the sixth minute, proved decisive as Philippe Clement's side secured all three points in a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Hearts at Ibrox on Sunday.
The strike marked Dessers' third goal in as many games and his tenth of the season across all competitions for Rangers, further cementing his role as a key contributor for the Gers.
The towering forward reflected on his 10-goal milestone, expressing his hunger for even more as the season progresses.
Cyriel Dessers reflects on 10 goals as he targets even greater heights
Speaking after the match, Dessers reflected on his growing goal tally. Despite reaching double digits, the striker’s ambition remains clear.
“Obviously, it’s always nice to score at Ibrox, just to see the ball in the net. I think it was a good moment for us to score to go ahead and, 10 goals, like you say, it’s a nice number, I’m happy to get there already now, but I want more,” said Dessers as per Rangers News.
Dessers has had plenty of criticism this season for missing chances for Rangers, but has still scored 10 goals this season in 20 appearances in all competitions, including the midweek equaliser against Olympiacos in the Europa League in Athens.
The 29-year-old came under fire just a few days ago for claiming that, if he took every chance, he wouldn’t be at Rangers.
Dessers joined Rangers at the beginning of the 2023/24 season from Italian club Cremonese. Despite some early struggles, he ultimately delivered a respectable campaign, netting 22 goals and providing 9 assists across 54 appearances in all competitions.
