Super Eagles midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru is on track to regain full fitness just in time for Nigeria’s crucial 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
The 24-year-old, who was named in Eric Chelle’s provisional 39-man squad, has been making steady progress in his recovery and could be available for selection when the Super Eagles take on Rwanda and Zimbabwe later this month.
Dele-Bashiru, who joined Lazio last summer on loan from Turkish side Hatayspor, suffered an ankle injury during a goalless draw against Venezia on 22nd February. Consequently, he has been sidelined for two key matches, including Lazio’s Coppa Italia showdown against Inter Milan and a Serie A encounter with AC Milan.

Initially ruled out for 15 days, the Nigerian international is now on the verge of a full recovery, with his return to action imminent.
Dele-Bashiru nears return, could be available for Udinese clash
Dele-Bashiru is edging closer to a return from injury, with promising signs emerging from his latest training sessions, according to reports from Italy.
On Tuesday, the Manchester City academy graduate took part in rondo drills and activation exercises alongside his teammates before transitioning to individual athletic training.
Although he is unlikely to be included in the squad for the upcoming European trip to Plzeň, his recovery timeline indicates that he could be in contention for selection against Udinese.

This progress comes as a significant boost for both his club and Nigeria, as the Super Eagles prepare for crucial must-win clashes against Rwanda and Zimbabwe.
Since earning his maiden Super Eagles call-up in October 2023, Dele-Bashiru has made six appearances for the African giants, finding the net twice.
He registered his first international goal for Nigeria during their World Cup qualifier against South Africa and followed it up with another strike against Libya in a 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
