Josh Maja continued his impressive run in the Championship, scoring his 10th goal of the season in West Bromwich Albion’s 2-2 draw with Norwich City at The Hawthorns on Saturday.
The one-cap Super Eagles striker has now scored in back-to-back games, further cementing his status as one of the league’s most reliable forwards.
The decisive moment came in the 43rd minute when Maja converted a precise cross from Tom Fellows with a brilliant right-footed strike into the top center of the net.
This marked his 10th goal of the season, all of which have been scored inside the box. Maja’s ability to finish with both feet and his head has been crucial to his success, as his goals are evenly split—three each with his left and right foot, and four headers.
During his 82 minutes on the pitch, Maja demonstrated his efficiency with just 25 touches, completing 93% of his passes and creating one key pass for his teammates. His aerial and ground duels were flawless, winning all three contested challenges, and he showed defensive awareness with two interceptions.
A season of consistency for Maja
Maja’s consistency is reflected in his broader season statistics. He has scored 10 goals in 16 matches, averaging a goal every 131 minutes, and boasts a solid goal conversion rate of 29%.
His contributions include one assist, while his 8.41 expected goals (xG) underline his knack for being in the right place at the right time. Despite missing nine big chances, he continues to be a vital asset for West Brom’s attack.
Maja’s performance has made him the second-highest scorer in the Championship, trailing only Norwich City’s Borja Sainz.
However, his continued exclusion from the Nigerian national team remains a talking point, as his form increasingly warrants a recall to the Super Eagles setup.
