Super Eagles and Fulham midfielder Alex Iwobi delivered another impressive performance in Fulham's hard-fought 1-1 draw against Tottenham Hotspur in North London.
The Nigerian international notched his sixth goal contribution of the Premier League season, setting up Tom Cairney's equalizer and proving instrumental to Fulham's resilience.
No Fulham player has been directly involved in more league goals this season than Iwobi, who now boasts three goals and three assists in 13 appearances.
Against a Spurs side that struggled to contain his relentless energy, Iwobi’s tactical intelligence and tireless running stretched Tottenham’s shape to its limits, creating opportunities for Fulham.
Iwobi hunts North London landlords
Tottenham took the lead in the 54th minute through Brennan Johnson, who finished expertly from close range. However, Fulham responded just over 10 minutes later when Iwobi’s perfectly weighted pass found Cairney, who slotted home with a composed finish.
Iwobi's influence was felt throughout the contest. The 28-year-old registered 46 touches, completed 25 of 33 passes with 76% accuracy, and created two key chances. His ability to carry the ball effectively saw him attempt four dribbles, completing two, while his off-the-ball movement disrupted Spurs' defensive structure.
Although Iwobi did not find the back of the net, he came close on two occasions, with Spurs goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario denying him twice in the top corner. He also rattled the woodwork, narrowly missing a chance to put Fulham ahead.
Bassey steady at the back
Iwobi’s compatriot Calvin Bassey also impressed, playing the full 90 minutes. The Nigerian defender contributed to Fulham's solidity at the back, registering one blocked shot while winning several duels to keep Spurs at bay.
The Nigerian defender was resolute throughout the game, effectively neutralizing threats from Spurs’ attack and contributing to Fulham’s ability to hold their ground against the league’s high-flyers.
Bassey’s composure was evident as he completed 57 touches and distributed the ball with an impressive 83% accuracy, completing 39 of his 47 attempted passes. He also demonstrated his range with seven long balls, three of which found their target, helping Fulham transition from defense to attack.
