Juventus threaten Victor Osimhen’s quest to break Galatasaray’s long-standing Champions League record

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen is on the cusp of setting a new record at Galatasaray, but Juventus stand as a significant stumbling block, Afrik-Foot reports.

Galatasaray face Juventus in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 playoffs on Tuesday. The Turkish giants host the first leg at Rams Park before traveling to Turin for the return fixture next week.

Although the Old Lady remains one of the elite teams in Serie A, Galatasaray boasts a squad capable of matching them, as they appear nearly equal in a man-for-man comparison.

The main man to watch will be Super Eagles talisman Osimhen. The Cimbom acquired him from Napoli last summer in a groundbreaking deal worth €75 million, and since the move, he has been consistently shattering records.

Against Juventus, the 27-year-old hitman might even have extra motivation, as he could break—or move within striking distance of—a historic milestone in the Galatasaray record books.

According to Turkish outlet Fotomac, the Super Eagles star is just three goals away from becoming the Cimbom’s highest goalscorer in a single Champions League campaign.

Osimhen currently has six goals in the competition. Should he find the net three more times, he will reach nine goals, surpassing Burak Yılmaz (8) for the most goals scored by a Galatasaray player in a single Champions League season.

Even if he doesn’t bag a hat-trick on Tuesday or next week, he remains in a strong position to break the record, provided Galatasaray can navigate past Juventus to stay in the competition.

Osimhen is well-acquainted with the Old Lady from his time in Italy, boasting a decent record of two goals and two assists in seven appearances against the Turin giants.

He will be desperate to get on the scoresheet once more and help his side progress to the Round of 16 for the first time since 2014.
