Super Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho faces uncertainty over his future at Celtic heading into the end of the season, Afrik-Foot reports.
The 29-year-old joined the Scottish champions on a free transfer last summer following a difficult spell at Sevilla. He made a bright start to life in Scotland but has endured a stop-start campaign due to several injury issues and there had been suggestions that his stay at the club could end after just one season because of those fitness concerns.
However, he has rediscovered his form over the past few weeks, which has also coincided with Celtic’s strong run as they push for the league title in a tight race with Hearts.

The Nigerian forward scored a stoppage-time winner in the 3-2 win over Motherwell on Wednesday, which kept the Scottish Premiership title race alive heading into the final day and his recent performances have led to discussions about a possible extension, with Celtic holding the option to extend his stay by another year.
Celtic reveal stance on Kelechi Iheanacho’s future
Despite his improved form, Iheanacho’s future had remained uncertain. The Nigerian forward himself admitted that contract talks would only take place after the season, with full focus on the title race.
“I think after 90 minutes on Saturday, then we’ll talk about that”, the former Leicester City striker said earlier.
However, according to Football Insider, Celtic are now reportedly preparing to trigger the one-year extension in Iheanacho’s contract, which would keep him at the club for at least another season and end the uncertainty surrounding his future.

This development comes after comments from first-choice striker Daizen Maeda, who expressed his desire to play in the English Premier League.
“I want to take the next step and play in the Premier League, which has always been my goal. Right now, I’m grateful to Celtic and I’m giving it my all”, Football Insider revealed.
Maeda’s current contract runs until 2027 and his latest comments suggest he may not be willing to sign an extension, which could force the club a sale in the summer transfer window.
Celtic would need to enter the transfer market for another striker if Maeda leaves. At the same time, they are also keen not to lose another experienced forward, which would mean activating Iheanacho’s one-year extension ahead of next season.
With this development, Iheanacho’s story at the Scottish club is likely to continue into another season, with the striker hoping to make a bigger impact while also staying fit and avoiding injuries.

For now, attention turns to Saturday’s title decider against Hearts, where a win would see Iheanacho claim his first trophy with Celtic as they look to secure the league crown.
The Hoops will also face Dunfermline Athletic in the Scottish Cup final later this month, giving Iheanacho the chance to complete a domestic double in his debut season in Scotland.
