Ademola Lookman was instrumental in Atalanta’s 3-0 victory over FC Shakhtar Donetsk in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday night. The Nigerian international, who had been waiting two games to make his mark in Europe’s top competition, delivered a standout performance at the Arena AufSchalke in Germany, contributing both a goal and an assist.
The 26-year-old forward, who debuted in the Champions League back in 2019 with RB Leipzig, assisted Berat Djimsiti’s opener in the 21st minute. Lookman’s precision cross from a set-piece allowed Djimsiti to tap in from close range, giving Gian Piero Gasperini’s side the lead.
Before halftime, Lookman got his moment, slotting home a right-footed shot from the center of the box after a well-timed assist from Saed Kolasinac. His strike made it 2-0 and put Atalanta firmly in control of the match. Lookman, who has been in fine form this season, now has five goal involvements in just six games across all competitions (three goals, two assists).
Atalanta sealed the win early in the second half when Bellanova headed in a third goal.
