Moses Simon is not just having a good season in France, he’s getting recognition for it too. The Super Eagles winger has been shortlisted for the 2024/25 Ligue 1 Goal of the Season award, capping off a bitter-sweet campaign in which he has emerged as one of FC Nantes’ most important players.
The 2022 CAF Player of the Year nominee has registered seven goals and nine assists in the French top flight so far, bettering the return from his debut season with the Stade de la Beaujoire landlords.
His directness, explosive pace, and eye for the spectacular have been central to Nantes’ battle against relegation, with one moment in particular earning him a place on the shortlist.

Moses Simon’s solo brilliance faces stiff competition
Moses Simon’s nomination, confirmed by French outlet L’Équipe, comes on the back of his audacious solo goal against Rennes before Christmas.
In that game, he collected the ball on the flank and danced past three defenders before firing beyond the goalkeeper a goal that lit up the Stade de la Beaujoire and sent fans into raptures.

He is joined on the shortlist by Maghnes Akliouche (Monaco), Amine Gouiri (Marseille), Esteban Lepaul (Angers), and Andrey Santos (Strasbourg). The winner will be announced during the UNFP Awards ceremony on May 11.
While Simon continues to shine individually, Nantes remain perilously close to the drop zone, just one point above safety.
With the club’s top-flight status hanging in the balance and transfer interest from abroad growing, the Nigerian could soon be on the move. Everton and clubs in Turkey have been linked, but for now, his focus remains on finishing strong and keeping Nantes afloat.
