We've got you covered in this article.

Sparks will fly as Nigeria and South Africa go head-to-head at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2024).

These teams have squared off against each other a fair few times, and three of those encounters took place at the Nations Cup.

Which of these outfits will advance to the AFCON 2024 final when all is said and done?

Super Eagles match time

This semi-final match will take place at the Stade de la Paix in Bouaké on Wednesday February 7.

Kick-off time is 6 pm WAT.

Nigeria

After a disappointing 1-1 draw against Equatorial Guinea, Nigeria's Super Eagles have found their stride, winning four matches in a row without conceding.

The Super Eagles advanced to the AFCON semi-finals for a record 16th time after their victory over Angola, they are on a quest to win their fourth Nations Cup title.

South Africa

On the other hand, Bafana Bafana booked a place in the last four for the first time in 24 years.

Interestingly, the last time they reached the semi-final, South Africa lost to Nigeria's Super Eagles in 2000.

Hugo Broos will look to guide his team to the AFCON final for the first time since 1998.

Nigeria vs South Africa head to head

This will be the 15th encounter between these teams, and their fourth meeting in the Nations Cup.

Bafana Bafana have not really performed well against the Super Eagles in the past, as they won just two of 14 previous skirmishes between these teams, with five draws and seven losses.

In fact, South Africa are 0 for 3 vs Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations, and two of those losses came in the knockout stages.

The first meeting between these teams took place in October 1992, while their most recent clash was in the quarter-final of AFCON 2019.

Nigeria vs South Africa tactical analysis

These teams have the best defences at this tournament, as they've both kept four consecutive clean sheets.

The Super Eagles conceded just once in their opening game, while Bafana Bafana saw their defence breached twice in their AFCON opener. Both teams have not conceded since then.

Conversely, both teams don't particularly score plenty of goals.

Although Bafana Bafana scored four goals against Namibia, they've been inconsistent, failing to score in three of the five matches so far.

On the other hand, while Nigeria scored in every game they played, they didn't score more than two goals in the same match, and in four of five games, they scored just once.

Nigeria vs South Africa prediction

Considering how solid these teams have been defensively, it's tough to pick a winner here.

One thing we know for sure is that both teams don't concede plenty of goals, and for this reason, we shouldn't expect goals at both ends.

With that in mind, our Nigeria vs South Africa prediction is that one of these teams will fail to score.

Our prediction is for Nigeria to win 1-0 against South Africa.
