Nigeria were placed in Group A for AFCON 2024, alongside the host nation Ivory Coast, Equatorial Guinea, and Guinea-Bissau.

The Super Eagles kicked off their campaign with a draw against Equatorial Guinea.

They followed it up with a pivotal 1-0 victory over the hosts, courtesy of William Troost-Ekong's penalty.

Subsequently, they secured another 1-0 win against Guinea-Bissau, with an own goal from Opa Sangante.

Then, in Round 16, Nigeria emerged triumphant with a 2-0 win over Cameroon, powered by two goals from Ademola Lookman.

Lookman was again the hero for the Super Eagles after he scored the winning goal in their quarter-final against Angola.

In the semi-finals, Nigeria battled past South Africa, eventually winning 4-2 on penalties following a 1-1 draw after extra time.
