FC Porto returned to winning form with a commanding 3-0 victory over Arouca at the Estádio do Dragão, thanks to a standout performance from Super Eagles-eligible striker Samu Omorodion. With the win, Porto sits three points behind Sporting Lisbon at the top of the table, with six wins and a loss from their opening seven matches.
Omorodion, who started ahead of Gul, justified his selection by netting the opening goal just two minutes into the second half. After missing a couple of chances earlier in the match, Omorodion’s persistence paid off when he latched onto Pepê's cross and fired a right-footed shot into the center of the goal. His effort broke the deadlock, setting the tone for Porto's dominant display.
The second goal quickly followed, with Nico González adding to Porto’s tally in the 51st minute, before Galeno made it 3-0 in the 57th minute. Arouca struggled to handle Porto’s relentless attack, and the fourth goal was a mere formality as the hosts coasted to victory.
Omorodion’s scorecard on the night
The 20-year-old forward, who has been in fine form lately, extended his scoring run to four consecutive matches, as Porto moved to 18 points from seven games in the Primeira Liga.
Omorodion’s individual performance was notable. He played the full 90 minutes, recording one goal from an Expected Goals (xG) of 0.56. The former Atletico de Madrid man registered four shots—one on target, three off—while also having two shots blocked.
The Spanish-Nigerian also contributed 22 touches and completed 50% of his passes (4/8). Additionally, he won 2 out of 4 ground duels, delivered one key pass, and was fouled twice. However, he also lost possession six times and was caught offside once.
