Osimhen: Key reasons Chelsea may prefer Juventus’ Vlahovic to Super Eagles star

Published on by

Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen and Juventus forward Dusan Vlahovic are two of Chelsea’s leading targets during this summer transfer window, Afrik-Foot reports.

After scoring only 58 goals last season, the fifth best of the Premier League, Chelsea know quality reinforcement is needed in the final third.

The London club wants to strengthen its attack before the new season and has reportedly reopened talks with Osimhen’s representatives after monitoring the Nigerian for several transfer windows. The 27-year-old has continued to attract attention following another outstanding campaign with Galatasaray, where he maintained his reputation as one of Europe’s most dangerous goalscorers after leaving Napoli.

Chelsea believe Osimhen, who is also unlikely to join Barcelona, has the qualities needed to lead their attack under new manager Xabi Alonso. The club wants a striker capable of scoring between 25 and 30 goals each season as they aim to challenge for the Premier League title and compete strongly in the UEFA Champions League.

However, Atletico Madrid-linked Osimhen is not the only name on Chelsea’s shortlist. According to CaughtOffside, the Blues have also held discussions with the representatives of Serbian international Dusan Vlahovic. Chelsea see the Juventus striker as a serious alternative if they decide to reshape their forward line.

The club is also keeping tabs on Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins, Brentford’s Igor Thiago and Inter youngster Francesco Pio Esposito, although each deal comes with its own challenges. Even so, Osimhen and Vlahovic remain the two standout options as Chelsea continue weighing up the best signing for their attack.

Osimhen: Why Vlahovic could be Chelsea’s preferred option

While Osimhen is widely regarded as the bigger superstar, several factors could make Vlahovic the more realistic choice for Chelsea.

The most obvious advantage is financial. Vlahovic is set to become available without a transfer fee, making him a far cheaper option than Osimhen, whose current club Galatasaray are reportedly demanding around €150 million after already rejecting a €120 million offer from Atlético Madrid and Saudi Arabia. Chelsea, who have spent heavily in recent seasons, may prefer a deal that allows them to strengthen other areas of the squad.

Osimhen’s salary expectations also remain a major obstacle. His wage demands have previously complicated potential moves to the Premier League, while Vlahovic’s overall package could prove easier for Chelsea to manage.

The Serbian striker also offers qualities Chelsea admire. At 6ft 3in, he provides a strong physical presence, is comfortable playing with his back to goal and has built valuable experience at the highest level with both Fiorentina and Juventus. Club officials believe he could fit well into Alonso’s tactical system if negotiations progress.

Despite those advantages, Chelsea will not rush into a decision. The club wants to avoid another expensive transfer mistake and will only move if they are convinced the chosen striker suits Alonso’s style, can link play effectively and consistently convert chances.

Osimhen, who could be Galatasaray’s captain next term, remains Chelsea’s dream signing because of his proven goalscoring ability and world-class reputation. Yet with transfer costs, wages and overall financial planning playing such a major role, Vlahovic may ultimately emerge as the more practical solution for the Blues before the summer window closes.
