Galatasaray's head coach, Okan Buruk, has lauded Victor Osimhen's wonder strike during the club's recent league win over Antalyaspor.
This spectacular goal not only contributed to the team's comfortable 3-0 victory but is also poised to elevate the perception of the Turkish league in Europe.
The match appeared to be drifting toward a predictable conclusion after Mauro Icardi scored twice for the reigning Turkish Super Lig champions.
However, the introduction of the Super Eagles forward in the 72nd minute reignited the contest, showing off his undeniable impact on the game.
Initially, Osimhen believed he had scored two goals, but only one was validated—an unfortunate twist for the Nigerian star.
His second attempt, executed with precision, was a stunning overhead kick that not only thrilled fans but also showed the calibre of talent the Nigerian international possesses.
This moment marked Osimhen’s seventh goal involvement in just five matches for Galatasaray.
Osimhen's potential to transform Turkish football
In a post-match interview, Buruk expressed his delight at Osimhen’s performance, revealing the significance of the goal.
He openly shared that he would have been deeply disappointed had it not counted.
“We used him (Osimhen) for a short time. He had one goal that didn’t count and one that counted. I would have been very upset if it didn’t count,” the coach told the club website.
The coach emphasised that the remarkable nature of Osimhen’s strike would be heard across Europe, potentially reshaping the image of the Turkish league and highlighting its competitive quality.
“It’s a very nice goal. It’s a goal that will make a splash in Europe and show our league. We need to show the quality of the Turkish league. In this sense, it’s an important goal,” the coach added.
