Promise David, a name not yet widely known in football circles, is quickly becoming one of the top young talents in the Belgian Pro League.
The 23-year-old striker, who plays for Union Saint-Gilloise, has steadily grown into his role this season, scoring four goals in 12 league appearances.
While his stats may not immediately jump off the page, David’s potential has caught the attention of former Everton forward Kevin Mirallas, who has drawn a striking comparison to Belgian superstar Romelu Lukaku.
Mirallas: “Promise David reminds me of Lukaku”
Speaking in an interview with Het Nieuwsblad via Walfoot, Mirallas highlighted the qualities that set Promise David apart. The Belgian, who has played alongside some of Europe’s top talents, didn’t hold back in praising the Nigerian youth international.
“If he converted all his chances, he would be top scorer,” Mirallas stated, acknowledging David’s ability to consistently find himself in goal-scoring positions.
But Mirallas also emphasized the young striker’s unique mentality, which he believes is critical to his development. “What makes him unique is that he doesn't feel the pressure. He can go from bad matches to scoring a double three days later,” he added.
Drawing a direct comparison to Romelu Lukaku, Mirallas remarked, “He reminds me of Romelu Lukaku. He is not yet aware of his strength, his speed, and his qualities. If he takes this step… we all know what Lukaku has accomplished.”
Born in Canada to Nigerian parents, David has already had an intriguing footballing journey. In October 2022, he made his debut for Nigeria’s U23 team during the qualifiers for the 2023 U-23 Africa Cup of Nations.
He was part of the Union Saint-Gilloise side that lifted the Belgian Super Cup in 2024.
