Super Eagles forward Umar Sadiq has hinted at frustration over his lack of consistent playing time, subtly directing attention to his manager's decisions.
Sadiq's tenure at Real Sociedad has been plagued by disappointment since his €20 million transfer from Almeria in 2022.
Shortly after his debut season began, he sustained a cruciate ligament injury, sidelining him for the entire campaign and causing him to miss 45 games. Despite this setback, Sadiq made a successful comeback last season, reintegrating himself into the squad.
He featured in 26 matches under Imanol Alguacil, starting 12 of those appearances. Over the course of the season, he averaged 43 minutes on the pitch, contributing three goals and one assist.
This season has been no different for the Nigerian forward, as he continues to struggle for game time, with Sheraldo Becker and Mikel Oyarzabal preferred in the starting lineup.
Sadiq pushes for consistency amid limited opportunities
Despite his professionalism and dedication in training, the forward believes he needs continuity to fully showcase his abilities.
Speaking to journalist Oluwashina Okeleji, per Eldesmarque, Sadiq said, “I just need continuity, and that does not depend on me. I’m training well, I’m more than a professional now, and that other part doesn’t depend on me.
“The only thing I can do is keep pushing and keep training hard, and, when I have continuity, it will be time to prove it.”
This season, Sadiq has made eight appearances for the Basque side across all competitions, starting in four and averaging 42 minutes of play per game. However, he has yet to score. but has managed one assist.
The 27-year-old is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury sustained during a training session ahead of Real Sociedad's La Liga fixture against Athletic Club.
He is expected to make his return to action in approximately one month.
