Southampton manager Russell Martin has poured cold water on speculation that Nigerian striker Paul Onuachu has submitted a transfer request.
Onuachu returned to St Mary’s after a successful loan spell at Trabzonspor, but amid ongoing negotiations between the two clubs over a permanent deal, reports emerged claiming Onuachu had expressed a desire to leave Southampton.
However, Martin has dismissed these claims, insisting he is unaware of any such request from the Super Eagles forward.
“There’s been no transfer request as far as I know. If I get told anything different, I’ll tell you. He’s training hard. He’s not ready to play yet. He’s only been back since Sunday so we’ll have to wait and see,” Martin said.
Onuachu: Southampton future uncertain amid Trabzonspor interest
Paul Onuachu's return to Southampton following a prolific loan spell at Trabzonspor came under a cloud of uncertainty.
The Nigeria international was instrumental in the Turkish club's campaign, netting 17 goals and providing four assists in just 25 matches, despite a significant injury layoff.
His impressive performances have made a permanent move to Trabzonspor a desirable option for Onuachu. However, the Turkish club has yet to meet Southampton's valuation of the 30-year-old. According to Southampton manager Russell Martin, the offer on the table falls short of the Saints' €13 million asking price.
Despite joining the Southampton squad for pre-season training in Spain, reports suggest the former Genk striker is unhappy with the ongoing transfer saga. The club's recent signings of Juan and Rento Takaoka have further fueled speculation about his future at St. Mary's.
As the transfer window progresses, the situation remains fluid, with no official statements released by any party involved. All eyes will be on Southampton and Trabzonspor as they continue negotiations that could determine Onuachu's footballing future.
