Nigeria’s next Super Eagles generation is starting to take shape across Europe and at home, Afrik-Foot reports.
Several players aged 20 or younger are already playing senior football, attracting major clubs and building experience that could soon put them in Eric Chelle’s plans.
The age group includes teenagers developing at Premier League clubs, young attackers gaining experience in Scandinavia and Turkey, and home-based players who have already made an impact in the NPFL. Their paths are different, but the target is the same: move from youth football into the senior national team.
Some are already very close. Zadok Yohanna was called up for the Unity Cup before an injury stopped him from making his Nigeria debut. George Ilenikhena has Champions League experience and is another young forward who has been linked with a senior opportunity. Uchenna Ogundu has also taken an important step after moving to the Bundesliga.

Others still have work to do. Regular first-team football, stronger goal records and experience against top-level opposition will be needed before they can challenge established Super Eagles players.
There is also an international battle around some of the youngsters. A number of Nigerian-eligible players are already part of the England or Italy youth systems. Their progress creates another challenge for Nigeria because the Super Eagles must compete for their international future as well as their football services.
This ranking looks at 11 Nigerian-eligible players aged 20 or younger, using their current Transfermarkt market values as the starting point. It also considers where each player stands in his development and how close he is to making the step up to the Super Eagles.
The numbers provide one measure of their potential. Their club minutes, international experience, development path and current competition for places offer a better guide to who could make the jump next.
Nigeria’s brightest youngsters
11. Kparobo Arierhi, €500,000
/https%3A%2F%2Fmedia.afrik-foot.com%2Fen-ng%2F2026%2F08%2Fimago1076351805.jpg)
Age: 19
Position: Centre-forward
Club: Lillestrøm
Super Eagles distance: Long
Arierhi has already taken the difficult step from Nigerian youth football into Europe. The 19-year-old forward plays for Norwegian club Lillestrøm and has represented Nigeria at U20 level. He was also part of the Flying Eagles squad at the 2025 FIFA U20 World Cup.
His senior numbers have not yet caught fire. That is the main reason a Super Eagles call-up is still some distance away. Chelle will want to see regular starts, more goals and evidence that Arierhi can handle senior football against experienced defenders. At 19, there is plenty of time to build that case.
10. Daniel Daga, €600,000
/https%3A%2F%2Fmedia.afrik-foot.com%2Fen-ng%2F2024%2F10%2Fimago1024396922.jpg)
Age: 19
Position: Central midfielder
Club: Molde
Super Eagles distance: Long to medium
Daga has already been through the Nigeria youth system and has 11 U20 appearances. The midfielder’s move to Molde gives him an important development platform in Europe. His ability to play in different midfield roles is also useful for a national team that needs depth behind established players.
Nigeria’s midfield, however, is crowded. Wilfred Ndidi, Raphael Onyedika, Frank Onyeka, Alhassan Yusuf, Tochukwu Nnadi and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru are already competing for places. Daga therefore needs regular club football before Chelle can seriously consider him. A strong spell in Norway could push him into the wider Super Eagles conversation.
9. Akpe Victory, €2 million
Age: 20
Position: Centre-back
Club: Basel
Super Eagles distance: Medium
Akpe Victory has one obvious advantage: size. The 1.95-metre defender offers the physical profile that many modern coaches want in central defence. His move to Basel also puts him inside a club with a strong record of developing young players.
The next test is consistency. Nigeria has several centre-backs competing for senior places, including Emmanuel Fernandez, Benjamin Fredrick, Calvin Bassey, Igoh Ogbu, Semi Ajayi and other younger options. Victory must establish himself at Basel before he can move ahead of those players. European competition could accelerate that process.
8. Uchenna Ogundu, €4 million
/https%3A%2F%2Fmedia.afrik-foot.com%2Fen-ng%2F2026%2F08%2Fimago1077628065.jpg)
Age: 20
Position: Centre-forward
Club: FC Augsburg
Super Eagles distance: Medium
Ogundu’s career has moved at serious speed. He left Nigeria’s Diamond Football Academy for Şanlıurfaspor in Turkey in 2024. There he scored six goals in 19 league appearances before moving to Alanyaspor, where he played 17 Süper Lig matches and scored twice.
Then came the major step. FC Augsburg signed Ogundu in February 2026 on a contract that runs until June 2031. He also made his Bundesliga debut against Wolfsburg later that month. That experience puts Ogundu ahead of many players his age. He has already played professional football in Turkey and Germany before turning 20.
The challenge is goals. His first Bundesliga appearances did not produce a goal, so he now needs regular minutes and attacking production in Germany. If that happens, the Super Eagles conversation will get much louder.
7. Suleman Sani, €5 million
/https%3A%2F%2Fmedia.afrik-foot.com%2Fen-ng%2F2026%2F06%2Fimago1070084686.jpg)
Age: 19
Position: Winger
Club: RB Leipzig
Super Eagles distance: Medium
Sani’s rise began in Nigeria before taking him to Europe. He produced a remarkable 2023/24 campaign with Akwa United, scoring 11 goals and providing five assists in 15 league matches. That form earned him a move to AS Trenčín before RB Leipzig secured his services this January.
The German club signed him to a long-term contract and sees enough potential to make a significant investment in his development. Sani has also represented Nigeria at U20 level.
His immediate target is first-team football at Leipzig. A regular role in the Bundesliga would give Chelle a much stronger reason to bring him into the senior squad.
6. George Ilenikhena, €10 million
/https%3A%2F%2Fmedia.afrik-foot.com%2Fen-ng%2F2026%2F08%2Fimago1073018225.jpg)
Age: 20
Position: Centre-forward
Club: Al-Ittihad
Super Eagles distance: Very close
Ilenikhena is already operating at a level where a Super Eagles call-up makes sense. Born in Lagos, the Al Ittihad striker developed in France before moving to Royal Antwerp. He later joined Monaco and gained Champions League experience. One of his most memorable moments came against Barcelona, when he scored for Antwerp as a teenager in the Champions League.
The international question is also moving in Nigeria’s direction. Reports have linked him with a switch to the Super Eagles, while Chelle has shown interest in bringing young forwards into his plans. Currently in Saudi Arabia, Ilenikhena is eyeing a return to Europe where his performances could push him to the next level.
5. Zadok Yohanna, €18 million
/https%3A%2F%2Fmedia.afrik-foot.com%2Fen-ng%2F2026%2F04%2Fimago1076030609.jpg)
Age: 19
Position: Right winger
Club: Brighton & Hove Albion
Super Eagles distance: Very close
Nineteen-year-old winger Yohanna is now valued at €18 million following his move from AIK to Brighton, having joined the Premier League club on July 1.
His rise has been rapid. The exciting youngster broke into AIK’s first team after arriving in Sweden from Ikon Allah Football Academy. His performances in Sweden attracted attention from major European clubs before Brighton won the race for his signature.
Eric Chelle included Yohanna in the Super Eagles squad for the 2026 Unity Cup in London. The teenager did not make his debut because of an injury issue, with AIK declining to release him while he continued his recovery.
That means Yohanna has already crossed a line that several players above him have not. Chelle has seen enough to invite him into the senior setup. His next opportunity could come once he settles at Brighton. A strong start in England could turn him from a promising call-up into a regular Super Eagles option.
4. Tyrique George, €20 million
Age: 20
Position: Winger
Club: Everton
Super Eagles distance: Very difficult
George has Nigerian eligibility, but Nigeria faces a major international-selection problem. He came through Chelsea’s academy and has represented England at youth level.
His move to Everton gives him another route into regular Premier League football. At €20 million, his market value is a clear sign of how highly clubs rate his potential. Nigeria can still hope to convince him to choose the Super Eagles, but England currently has a significant advantage because George has already progressed through its youth teams.
His club career will be important, but so will his international decision.
3. Honest Ahanor, €30 million
/https%3A%2F%2Fmedia.afrik-foot.com%2Fen-ng%2F2026%2F02%2Fimago1072685384.jpg)
Age: 18
Position: Centre-back
Club: Atalanta
Super Eagles distance: Extremely difficult
Ahanor is one of the most valuable Nigerian-eligible teenagers in Europe with a value of €30 million. He was born in Aversa, Italy, and has both Italian and Nigerian citizenship. He joined Atalanta from Genoa in July 2025.
Nigeria’s problem is that Italy already acted. Ahanor has represented Italy U21 and has two appearances for the team.
He is also developing at a Champions League-level club. That combination makes a Nigerian switch difficult. The Super Eagles would need to convince a player who is already inside the Italian national-team pathway.
2. Rio Ngumoha, €30 million
/https%3A%2F%2Fmedia.afrik-foot.com%2Fen-ng%2F2026%2F05%2FNS-Image-Zoom-Email-AfrikFoot-9.png)
Age: 17
Position: Left winger
Club: Liverpool
Super Eagles distance: Extremely difficult
Ngumoha’s valuation is extraordinary for a 17-year-old. The Liverpool winger joined the club after developing at Chelsea and has represented England at youth level. Liverpool moved early because they saw a player capable of developing into a high-level attacker.
Ngumoha has already played for England U19, putting him firmly inside the country’s youth pathway. Nigeria therefore has two jobs. The first is to keep contact with the player and his representatives. The second is to make the Super Eagles an attractive long-term option before England give him a senior opportunity.
1. Ethan Nwaneri, €35 million
/https%3A%2F%2Fmedia.afrik-foot.com%2Fen-ng%2F2026%2F05%2Fimago1074871935.jpg)
Age: 19
Position: Attacking midfielder
Club: Arsenal
Super Eagles distance: Extremely difficult
Nwaneri is the most valuable Nigerian-eligible U20 player in the world. His current market value is €35 million. The Arsenal youngster can play as an attacking midfielder, right winger or centre-forward.
His story started unusually early. Nwaneri became the youngest player in Premier League history when he came on for Arsenal against Brentford in September 2022 at only 15 years, five months and 28 days.
He has since progressed through England’s youth system and is now an England U21 international. That is the barrier Nigeria must overcome.
Nwaneri is already inside an elite Premier League environment and has a clear pathway with England. His Nigerian eligibility keeps the door open, but a Super Eagles debut is not an immediate expectation.
