Former Super Eagles and Shillong Lajong midfielder Kelechi Okoye has aired his opinion about Ademola Lookman leading Atletico Madrid to the semi-final of the UEFA Champions League, Afrik Foot reports.
Diego Simeone’s men secured a 2-0 win at the Spotify Camp Nou, but a 1-2 loss to Hansi Flick’s side at the Wanda Metropolitano sent Atletico to the Champions League semi-final, the first of Lookman’s career.
The former Atalanta man pulled one back for Los Colchoneros in the 31st minute after Lamine Yamal and Ferran Torres had levelled the scores for Barcelona.

Kelechi Okoye weighs in on Atletico’s UCL chances with Lookman
The three-cap Super Eagles star admitted he’s not a fan of Diego Simeone’s tactics, but was proud of Lookman’s contribution in sending Atletico to the semi-final.
“I was very happy when Lookman scored for Atletico. Even though I’m not a big fan of the club, seeing a Nigerian score in such a huge quarter-final match was truly refreshing,” the 41-year-old said in an interview with Footy Africa.

“It was always going to be difficult for Atletico, especially after Barcelona scored early.
“At one point, I thought Barca might run away with it. But then Lookman stepped up. His goal changed everything and helped Atletico hold on and reach the semi-finals.
“Lookman has really come into his own in the last two to three years. He’s a player for big occasions. I remember the hat-trick he scored in the Europa League final, and now this. I’m genuinely happy for him.
“One thing that pleases me is how well his move to Atletico has worked out. I was sceptical at first because Simeone isn’t known for attacking football. But Lookman has adapted brilliantly,” the former Gombe United midfielder concluded.
