Super Eagles: Three possible outcomes for Boniface amid Bayer Leverkusen uncertainty

Published on by

Super Eagles forward Victor Boniface faces an uncertain future at Bayer Leverkusen, with just a few days remaining before the summer transfer window closes, Afrik-Foot reports.

The Nigerian striker joined the German club in 2023 from Belgian side Union SG and quickly became an important part of the team. He played a key role during his early days at the club, helping Leverkusen achieve a historic unbeaten Bundesliga triumph in the 2023–24 season.

Leverkusen also won the DFB-Pokal that season but suffered a defeat to Atalanta in the Europa League final. Boniface was named in the Bundesliga Team of the Season and was also crowned the league’s Rookie of the Season.

However, injury and fitness problems have since affected his progress and contributed to him losing his place in the team. The Super Eagles forward was loaned out to fellow Bundesliga side Werder Bremen last season in an attempt to rediscover his form, but injuries once again limited his impact before he eventually returned to Leverkusen.

Boniface enjoyed an impressive pre-season and has stepped up his training and preparations as a decision on his future approaches.

Boniface: What could happen to Super Eagles forward at Bayer Leverkusen

The first possible outcome is for Boniface to leave Bayer Leverkusen on a permanent deal this summer.

The Super Eagles forward was loaned out last season as he looked to rediscover his form, although things did not eventually work out as hoped. A permanent departure would bring an end to his three-year spell at the club.

Boniface has previously attracted interest from clubs such as Al Nassr and AC Milan, although proposed moves to both sides eventually failed to materialize.

If Leverkusen decide to put him up for sale, there is likely to be interest from clubs, which could pave the way for the striker to leave permanently.

Another possible scenario is for Boniface to leave Leverkusen on loan.

The Super Eagles striker was sent to Werder Bremen on loan last season, and he could potentially make another temporary move this summer. The idea would be to give him the opportunity to rediscover his form and regain his confidence.

If he can stay fit and perform consistently at his next club, he could return to Leverkusen and potentially establish himself as an important player for the team in the future.

Apart from leaving the club, another possibility is for Boniface to remain at Bayer Leverkusen and accept a more limited role within the squad.

Boniface was previously one of the club’s key players before injuries and fitness issues contributed to him losing his place in the starting lineup. If he accepts a backup role, he could remain at Leverkusen and continue to compete for playing time rather than seek a move away.

With the new season approaching, his performances could still influence the situation and determine his next move.

Bayer Leverkusen begin their season against Wehen Wiesbaden in the first round of the German Cup later on Saturday, and a superb performance from Boniface, if he is given the opportunity, could go a long way towards influencing the club’s decision over his future.
