‘Who recommended Finidi as Super Eagles coach?’ – Nigerians starting to lose faith in new manager

After a disappointing 1-1 draw with Bafana Bafana last week, the Super Eagles‘ fortunes didn't improve much as they fell to Benin on Monday evening.

Finidi George's troops squared off against the Cheetahs at the Félix Houphouët-Boigny Stadium in Abidjan. Ahead of Monday's clash, the Super Eagles had an impressive record against Benin, winning 13 of 16 previous encounters with one loss.

As expected, Nigeria were the clear favourites, so it wasn't surprising when they opened the scoring through Raphael Onyedika.

However, things didn't go swimmingly for the Super Eagles after that, as Benin clawed their way back into the game, scoring twice in the first half.

In spite of Nigeria's best efforts, they were unable to get back on level terms, with Gernot Rohr's men holding on for three valuable points.

With that in mind, Nigerians did not hesitate to voice their opinions on X (formerly Twitter).

As it stands, Nigeria have no wins in four 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying games. They've amassed three points from a possible 12, with six matches left to play.

It is important to note that only the group leaders will advance to the World Cup, so the Super Eagles are in danger of missing the World's biggest football tournament for the second consecutive time.

Finidi's men are now fifth on the six-team table, four points behind group leaders Benin Republic.
