Super Falcons star leads UD Tenerife’s dramatic comeback against Liga F Giants

Super Falcons forward Gift Monday was instrumental in UD Tenerife's 2-1 victory over Athletic Club Femenino in Liga F, taking charge on home turf at the Campo Municipal de Fútbol de Adeje on Saturday. 

Monday’s performance was a standout as she netted an equalizer and provided the assist for the winning goal, cementing her influence in Tenerife’s attacking play this season.

The match began with Athletic Club taking an early lead in the 5th minute through Ane Elexpuru’s precise strike from outside the box. 

Monday’s key moments and numbers

Monday was then quick to respond, leveling the score in the 24th minute with a powerful header, guided into the bottom left corner from a perfectly placed cross by Aleksandra Zaremba.

In the 44th minute, Monday continued to make her presence felt by setting up teammate Nina Richard’s winning goal. Her vision and accuracy enabled Richard to strike from the center of the box, sealing the 2-1 win for Tenerife.

The 22-year-old played 90 minutes, registering one goal and one assist. Out of three shots, two were on target. She also had a missed big chance and 39 touches, illustrating her active role in driving Tenerife’s attack. Her pass accuracy reached 78%, with 14 of her 18 passes completed, while she crafted two key passes and delivered two successful crosses.

In terms of defensive and aerial ability, Monday won all three of her aerial duels and triumphed in three out of six ground duels. She contributed two clearances and endured nine possession losses, balanced by winning three fouls against her.

Over the 2024/2025 Liga F season, Monday has played seven matches, starting in six with an average of 79 minutes per game, amassing a total of 550 minutes. Her goal tally stands at four, equating to a goal every 138 minutes. 

With a conversion rate of 29%, she has scored 0.6 goals per game, complemented by two assists. Her average of 37.1 touches per match reflects her growing influence on the field.
