Super Eagles striker Tolu Arokodare faces a crucial few months ahead, as his future hangs in the balance.
He is currently at Ajax on a season-long loan from English Championship club Wolves. His spell at Wolves was underwhelming, yielding just six goals and two assists in 38 appearances last season.
Now at Ajax, however, he is enjoying the form of his life, having registered nine goals and three assists in 14 appearances across all competitions. His sharpness in front of goal has helped restore a sense of the dominance de Godenzonen enjoyed over Dutch football just a few years ago.

Yet this Amsterdam honeymoon could end as early as next summer if Ajax decide against triggering the €20 million buy option to sign him permanently.
In a recent interview, Arokodare confirmed he is open to staying at Ajax should the club meet the conditions required to sign him permanently, though he jokingly added that he wouldn’t mind a salary bump.

A pay rise of this nature is quite usual for players joining a new club, especially when taking a step up in profile.
Arokodare currently earns a basic wage of €44,231 per week at Ajax, which—inclusive of bonuses — totals approximately €3.2 million gross per year. For a player still proving himself at the highest level, it is a substantial package.
In this article, Afrik-Foot breaks down Ajax’s wage bill and shows where Arokodare ranks among the club’s top earners this season.

Taking home an estimated €3.2 million annually, Arokodare sits among the club’s top earners. According to Capology, he currently ranks as the ninth highest-paid player at Ajax.
The club’s top earner remains Julian Brandt, who commands an annual package of €5.49 million.

Whether a salary bump will be the stumbling block for a permanent stay is unknown. But reports have already emerged that show that Ajax are interested in making Arokodare’s contract permanent.

Obviously, Arokodare and Wolves have burnt bridges, so it is unlikely that he will ever wear the club’s jersey. Ajax, on the other hand, has been a fertile ground for him to flourish.
If he wants to stay in control of any transfer deal, Arokodare just needs to keep scoring goals consistently for Ajax.
