Can Tottenham sign Victor Osimhen? How Spurs can win the race for Super Eagles striker

Published on by

Tottenham Hotspur have the financial strength to make a serious move for Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen this summer, Afrik-Foot reports.

The biggest names in European football, including Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid – have been linked with a move for Osimhen in recent transfer windows. But for one reason or the other, the Super Eagles striker remains on the payroll of Turkish champions Galatasaray.

However, while the wealthiest clubs drag their feet in signing Africa’s number-one centre-forward, Tottenham could end the long transfer race by meeting Galatasaray’s huge demands.

The North London club have already spent heavily during the transfer window and are still looking to improve their attack after a disappointing Premier League season. Although Chelsea, Atletico Madrid and other European giants remain interested in Osimhen, Tottenham now appear to have the resources and the will to compete for one of the world’s most wanted forwards.

However, signing the Nigerian international will still be far from easy because Galatasaray are determined to keep their star striker unless a massive offer arrives.

Osimhen: Tottenham have the money to make a record-breaking move

Tottenham have changed their approach in the transfer market over the last few years. The club, once known for spending carefully, are unashamedly flaunting their large purses and investing in new players.

This summer alone, Spurs have already spent around £237 million. Their biggest signing is Italian midfielder Sandro Tonali, who reportedly joined in a deal worth up to £100 million, setting a new club transfer record. Shortly before that, Tottenham also completed the signing of Mateus Fernandes for about £85 million.

Their spending has been supported by the strong finances generated through the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, which hosts football matches, concerts and other major events throughout the year. The club also received fresh financial backing from majority owners ENIC, giving them more room to invest without breaking the Premier League’s financial rules.

Because of this financial strength, Tottenham are among the few clubs capable of matching Galatasaray’s reported asking price of €140 million to €150 million. Reports also claim the Turkish champions have already rejected offers worth around €120 million from Atletico Madrid and a Saudi Arabian club, showing they are not prepared to sell Osimhen cheaply.

Spurs need Osimhen after a disappointing attacking season

Any Tottenham interest in Osimhen is understandable, especially after their forwards struggled throughout the 2025/26 season.

The club finished in 17th place in the Premier League, narrowly avoiding relegation after their worst campaign in modern history. Goals were difficult to find, and none of the club’s main strikers delivered consistently.

Brazilian forward Richarlison finished as Tottenham’s top league scorer with 11 goals, but he could not carry the attack on his own. Dominic Solanke, who continues to live with high expectations, managed only three Premier League goals, while young French striker Mathys Tel scored four times. Randal Kolo Muani added just one league goal during a disappointing campaign.

Statistics also showed Spurs struggled to create chances. They finished near the bottom of the Premier League for shots, expected goals (xG), touches inside the opposition penalty area and successful through balls.

Osimhen would offer exactly what Tottenham lacked. The Nigerian striker scored 15 goals last season to help Galatasaray win the Turkish Süper Lig title and added another seven in the Champions League. His pace, movement, finishing and ability to score under pressure have made him the most valuable player in Turkish football history.

Chelsea and Atletico remain dangerous rivals

Even though Tottenham can afford the transfer fee, they still face strong competition from several top clubs.

Chelsea’s search for a proven goalscorer continues and Osimhen has always been on their radar. Atletico Madrid are also pushing hard after reportedly seeing a huge verbal bid turned down by Galatasaray. Real Madrid and Manchester United are also not completely out of the picture.

Interestingly, the biggest obstacle for Tottenham may not be the transfer fee but Osimhen’s wages. Reports suggest the striker is seeking around £400,000 per week (to make room for the UK’s high tax demands), which would be far above Tottenham’s current salary structure. The club’s highest earners reportedly receive around half that amount.

Chairman Daniel Levy would have to make a major change to the club’s wage policy if Spurs want to complete the deal. Such a decision could affect future contract negotiations with other players.

Still, if Tottenham are prepared to break both their transfer and wage records, they have the financial power to outbid Chelsea, Atletico Madrid and several other rivals. Whether they are willing to take that final step could decide where Victor Osimhen plays next season.
