Undeniable Victor Osimhen goes 2-in-2 ahead of Super Eagles WCQ crunch

Published on by

Victor Osimhen is finding rhythm at the most perfect time. The Super Eagles striker has now scored in consecutive matches for Galatasaray, reminding defenders of the ruthless edge that made him last season’s Super Lig golden boot winner.

A week ago, he was on target in a 4-0 demolition of Kayserispor. On Saturday night, he followed it up with another in a 3-1 win over Rizespor.

Two goals in three games, 209 minutes played, and already the familiar scent of another prolific campaign. Only teammate Baris Alper Yilmaz, with three, has more in the division.

Victor Osimhen form boosts Nigeria’s morale ahead of WCQ

Nigeria have struggled for goals without him in the qualifying campaign, scoring just once in each of their opening four matches.

Osimhen needed barely 11 minutes on his return in March to make his presence felt, striking twice against Rwanda before half-time and coming close to more. Against Zimbabwe, his 73rd-minute diving header looked to have secured all three points, until Tawanda Chirewa’s late equaliser spoiled the party.

Now, with the qualifiers resuming, Osimhen carries fresh momentum into September’s double-header.

The Super Eagles sit fourth in Group C with seven points from six matches, six adrift of leaders South Africa. With only the group winners assured of a ticket to the expanded 48-team World Cup, the path is narrow but still open.

Eric Chelle’s men welcome Rwanda to Uyo on September 6, then head to Bloemfontein for a crunch clash with South Africa on September 9. Camp opens on September 2.
