Victor Osimhen leads Europe in key stats despite 8 big misses

Published on by

Galatasaray and Nigeria striker Victor Osimhen has started the 2026-27 season like a man on fire despite missing five weeks of action due to injury.

The most valuable African centre-forward on the planet, Osimhen is tormenting defences in Turkey and Europe, scoring goals for fun and even providing assists to teammates.

The Super Eagles attacker has smashed nine goals and three assists in only eight Turkish Super Lig games to sit atop the scoring chart, joined there by compatriot Gift Orban. He also scored a crucial goal as Galatasaray powered to a 4-2 win at Lille, the club’s first victory in the Champions League this season.

While Osimhen’s goals, assists and overall performances have been impressive, his other numbers have also added to his status as one of the best strikers in the world.

Victor Osimhen’s numbers

Victor Osimhen’s 8.24 FotMob rating is the highest of any player in the Super Lig this season. The Nigeria international has also managed 55 shots in only 555 minutes played, with 44 per cent of those being in target.

The Galatasaray man is among the best in the Turkish league for headed shots (24), shots on target (25), big chances created (4), expected goals on target (9.45), and aerial duels won (27).

Interestingly, Victor Osimhen leads Europe’s top 10 leagues for shots on target per match.

The Nigerian striker averages 3.14 shots on target per game and four per 90 minutes, according to statistics published by Turkish outlet Milliyet.

His numbers come as Galatasaray continue to impress in the Süper Lig and the UEFA Champions League. Okan Buruk’s side have won four consecutive league matches to stay top of the table and also secured an away victory over Lille in Europe.

Galatasaray lead Turkey’s shooting charts

Galatasaray’s attacking style of play has helped Osimhen’s numbers and have elevated the reigning Turkish champions among the best in the country and on the continent.

The Yellow-Reds have attempted 202 shots in the Süper Lig, the highest total in the Turkish top flight and the fourth-highest among teams in Europe’s top 10 leagues.

They have also registered 69 shots on target, more than any other team in Turkey. The figures show how often the league leaders test opposing goalkeepers.

The Istanbul club have also been effective from the wings, leading the Süper Lig with 60 accurate crosses. Galatasaray, who face Stuttgart in the Champions League this week, rank fifth for successful dribbles, with 78 completed.

Osimhen has been central to their attacking threat, although his finishing has not always matched the number of chances he gets.

The Super Eagles striker ranks third among players in Europe’s top 10 leagues for missed clear-cut scoring opportunities, having failed to convert eight big chances.

Those missed opportunities will frustrate the 27-year-old, but his shooting figures show how regularly he gets into positions to score.

Osimhen could become even more dangerous when he improves his finishing, with his goals likely to power Galatasaray to another league title and beyond the Champions League group phase.
